At Hi-Note Music our goal is to foster a life-long connection between our students and music. Our teachers offer personalized music lessons tailored to the skills and interests of each student. We teach music that is relevant to the student so that they leave each lesson inspired and excited to practice at home. We offer guitar, bass, piano, uke, and drum lessons as well as a rock band class designed to get new musicians making music with one another!

The Beat Orchestra - (ages 7-13)
A weekly meetup in the park to practice "locking in" with other musicians in an eclectic percussion ensemble. Created for musicians of all instruments and all levels who want to sharpen their rhythmic capabilities. Students will explore bass drum, snare, djembes, shakers, and boomwhackers to perform various genres including funk, samba, hip hop and more.

Hi-note Children's Choir - (ages 7-13)
Join us this summer as we build a neighborhood choir. Crystal Akins will lead this weekly 60 minute class where students will learn a fun repertoire of pop, rock, and international music.

MEET THE TEAM
Steve Aman has been teaching music and performing in the Portland area for the past 14 years. In September of 2019 he founded
Hi-note Music where he teaches piano, uke, drumming and rock band class. In addition to teaching he also performs with Ural Thomas and the Pain as well as other bands and music therapy choirs.
Crystal has been building choirs in Portland and Lincoln City for over 20 years. She has worked with Children's Choirs, Intergenerational Choirs as well as music therapy choirs such as the Sing Here Now! Choir for adults with early stages of Alzheimer's and Dementia. In addition to musician and choir director, she is also an Arts Activist and has been organizing arts in the community for the past 20 years and now wants to guide others in how to activate arts in their communities.
Colin Jenkins has been teaching piano, guitar, drums, bass and ukulele in the greater Portland area for over 14 years. He studied percussion performance and music education at the University Oregon. He has toured nationally and internationally with various musical groups.
Drawn to the guitar in middle school by the classic rock greats and a love of song writing, Jerome continued his studies at Portland State University, focusing on voice, jazz, and classical guitar. He has taught guitar, bass, and voice, and directed youth rock groups, choirs and musical theatre productions. He has performed in the northwest for over twenty years, playing jazz, rock, soul, reggae, and brazilian funk. He currently performs with Peruvian band Grupo Masato in the Portland area.
A personalized approach
We believe that each student has a unique set of interests and needs. We strive to bring each student material that is meaningful and relevant to them to create a lifelong connection with music. Our instructors are local musicians performing regularly with the ability to mentor young musicians and help lead them to their personal goals.

ROCK BAND CLASS

Because music should be fun
We are excited to offer ROCKBAND Class, a weekly 60 min class designed for beginner, intermediate and advanced musicians. Students will sharpen their music skills learning to perform fun pop and rock songs and create original songs in small groups with specialized instruction from music teachers that perform locally.
Students will learn the basics of playing in a band/ensemble, learning parts, and how they fit together to groove as a group!
